JOLIET, IL âThe Joliet JackHammers continued to firm up their 2005 roster by announcing the re-signing of their general behind the plate, Jeff Goldbach. Spring Training kicks off today in Joliet, and with the majority of the Northern League Teams. The JackHammers are scheduled to begin their fourth season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20 versus the Gary SouthShore (IN) RailCats at Silver Cross Field in Joliet's City Center.
Goldbach played in 86 games last season; including 82 behind the plate (he also had 2 games at 1st base). He batted .233 (66 for 283) and added 16 doubles, 11 homeruns, and 43 RBI. Jeff also boasted a .988 fielding percentage as he was charged with only 7 errors in 572 total chances.
Jeff is a former 2nd round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs and spent 6 seasons within the Cubs and Texas Rangers organizations. He split time between Fargo and Joliet in 2003, with 2004 being his 1st full season in Joliet.
Through seven pro seasons Goldbach has batted .233 (475-for-2.039) in 603 games played He stands 6'0" and weighs 210 pounds. Goldbach bats and throws right-handed. He was born on December 20th, 1979 (25 years old). Jeff resides in Princeton, IN where he played his High School baseball for the Princeton Tigers. Field Manager Jeff Isom welcomes the return of his catcher, "We're happy to have Jeff back this season. He proved last year that he was one of the top defensive catchers last season by shutting down the opponents running game."
LOOSE GRAVEL: On May 7th, come out and visit with Jammer and JackHammer players at the Plainfield CarCare Collision Center on Route 59 in Plainfield. They're just North of 127th street. Jammer will be there from 12-1 and the players from 12-2. There will be prizes, giveaways, autographs and surprises. Lunch will be provided by Baby Back Blues BBQ.
