TODAY: After holding on to take the series opener 3-2 last night, the RedHawks again face Omaha in a Sunday matinee at Rosenblatt Stadium. The RedHawks lead the season series 3-2, with all 5 games having been played in Omaha. The Royals out-hit OKC 10-9 last night, but stranded 16 men on base including the bases loaded in the seventh and ninth innings while trailing 3-2. The RedHawks are 16-11 on the road and atop the American South Division by a half-game over Albuquerque. The Royals are third, 2.5 back of Nashville in the American North. Doug Mathis is due to start for the RedHawks against Gaby Hernandez.
DIVISION LEAD HOLDS: OKC begins play tonight a half-game ahead of Albuquerque in the American South Division for the second straight day. The RedHawks have been in sole possession of first place since a win at Memphis April 16.
BIG DIFFERENCE: The RedHawks own the best run differential in the league, having scored 277 runs while allowing 219, a +58. Fresno is second at +53. OKC is 9-8 in 1-run games, 11-14 in games decided by 1 or 2 runs and 19-11 in games decided by 3 or more.
OPENING ACT: OKC did not allow a run in the first inning last night, snapping a string of allowing at least 1 first-inning run in 5 straight games. OKC has been scored upon in 6 of the last 8 first innings after allowing a first-inning run in just 7 of the first 47 games. When allowing a first-inning run, the RedHawks are 7-7.
GARKO, STEP FORWARD: With a hit-by-pitch in last night's seventh inning, Ryan Garko extended his on-base streak to 14 games. Garko has been hit by a pitch in 3 of the last 4 games. Gregorio Petit was kept off the bases, snapping his 17-game on-base streak. Brandon Boggs has reached in 12 straight.
RANKING GERMAN: Esteban German is third in the league lead with 40 runs scored and second in stolen bases with 20. Sacramento's Corey Wimberley has 24 steals. German is fifth in the PCL in walks with 32. He has the league's longest road on-base streak, having reached by hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 19 consecutive road contests.
BULLPEN WORKS OVERTIME: OKC's relief corps tossed 5.2 innings yesterday in support of Guillermo Moscoso's first appearance at any level since May 20. Collectively, the 'pen allowed 1 run on 5 hits in those innings. In the past 20 games, OKC's bullpen has worked 75.1 innings, allowing 15 earned runs (1.79 ERA) on 48 hits while going 5-1.
PITCHING NO. 1: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.45. Nashville has the second-best mark at 3.61. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (28) in the league. Fresno is closest with 37 home runs surrendered. OKC has allowed the fewest earned runs (187) and total runs (219), while compiling the third-most strikeouts (409) behind Sacramento (433) and Albuquerque (414).
STRONG UP THE MIDDLE: The RedHawks improved to 6-9 in series openers last night. They are 4-10 in series finales, meaning they've gone 20-6 in the second and third games of series.
NO DOUBLE DIGITS: The RedHawks are the only team in the PCL to have not allowed double-digit runs in a game. The most allowed by the RedHawks is 9 runs on 3 occasions. Their highest earned run total allowed is 8 on Thursday in a 10-9 win over Memphis. In that game Memphis had a 9-0 lead in the sixth inning, only to see OKC rally over the final 4 innings to win capped by a 3-run, walk-off homer by Esteban German.
DEFENSIVE DOINGS: The RedHawks have made 1 error in each of their last 6 games and 7 of their last 8. When making an error, the RedHawks are 13-17. They're 17-8 when errorless.
