The Zephyrs got on the board in the top of the second inning when Hector Luna led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, and the Zephyrs led 1-0.
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning. Logan Morrison hit a one-out single to spark a rally. Luna drew a walk, and Donnie Murphy singled in Morrison, making it a 2-0 game. Gookie Dawkins hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Luna, to make it a 3-0 ball game. Lee Mitchell followed Dawkins with an RBI of his own, singling in Murphy. Two batters later, Zephyrs' starting pitcher, Sean West, hit a ground ball right under second baseman Matt Camp's glove, increasing the Zephyrs lead to 5-0.
The Zephyrs added to the lead in the next frame. Morrison doubled to lead off the inning. The next two batters were retired, and Dawkins hit a single, scoring Morrison, to make it 6-0 in favor of the Zephyrs.
The Cubs' bats finally woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pinch hitter Marquez Smith led off the inning with a walk, which was followed up with a single by Sam Fuld. Two batters later, Chad Tracy blasted a line drive home run to right field, to slice the lead in half.
The Zephyrs scored in each of the last three innings. Luna hit his second solo home run of the game in the top of the seventh, and Murphy hit a two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning, making the score 10-4.
Sam Fuld homered for the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth inning, his first of the season.
