Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers relied on the long ball to power their way to a 5-2 series-opening win over Las Vegas at Cheney Stadium on Saturday.

Outfielder Mike Wilson belted a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth, breaking up what had been a scoreless game and giving Tacoma all the offense they would need in the outing.

Right-hander David Pauley picked up his first win in the 11th start of his 2010 campaign after holding the 51s to two runs on five hits over a season-high eight innings of work. Reliever Brian Sweeney grabbed his first save of the season after giving up one hit over one inning of work in the ninth.

The loss went to Las Vegas starter Brad Mills after the left-hander gave up all five Rainiers runs on six hits over seven innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

Left-hander Luke French gets the nod for Tacoma tomorrow when the Rainiers take the field at Cheney Stadium again at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
