Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- Carlos Corporan fell just a home run short of a cycle Saturday night, but Reno fell 9-6 to Portland in front of 7,734 fans in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
In a back-and-forth affair that saw the teams combine for 11 runs in the first three innings, Portland used a three-run eighth to break open a 6-6 tie and secure the victory. Reno used a three-run third inning to take a 6-5 lead, but Portland would answer with one in the fifth and three in the eighth, while its bullpen kept the Aces off the board over the game's final six frames.
Wes Roemer tossed the first five innings for Reno, allowing six runs-four earned-while striking out three and walking five. Daniel Stange (4-3) suffered the loss for Reno after allowing all three eighth-inning runs.
Cesar Ramos (2-2) earned the win for the Beavers in relief of starter Cesar Carrillo, who allowed all six Aces runs over four innings of work. Ernesto Frieri shut the Aces down in the ninth to earn his 11th save.
Corporan finished 3-for-4 with a walk, one night after collecting four hits in Colorado Springs. Cole Gillespie belted his fourth home run of the season, a two-run first-inning blast, and Doug Deeds chipped in with his team-leading 22nd double of the season.
Reno plays host to Portland again Sunday afternoon, as RHP Bryan Augenstein (2-6, 6.39 ERA) squares off against RHP Matt Buschmann (0-3 7.54 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. from Aces Ballpark. Sunday's matinee will feature a Lil' Kinz Plush Cow giveaway presented by Nevada Dairy Council. There will be 1,500 cows given away before Sunday's game to children 12 and under.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
