
RedHawks Fall to Joliet

FARGO, N.D. - The Joliet JackHammers avoided the series-sweep with a 14-4 rout of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 4,106 fans. JackHammers starter RHP Jason Novak (2-3) pitched 5.0 innings and gave-up two runs (all earned) for his second win of the season. JackHammers RHP Derek Barrows pitched 4.0 innings to close out the game and notch his first save of the season.
JackHammers LF Brad Correll cracked a double and DH Joe Gaetti got the JackHammers on the board with a two-run round-tripper to open the scoring. RedHawks starter RHP Matt Mossey plunked RF Tim Alberts. C Christian Lopez and 2B Rob Dahlberg teamed-up for a pair of second-inning singles. CF Adam Klein capped the scoring with a RBI double to give the JackHammers a 4-0 lead.
In the home half of the second, RedHawks 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn drew a two-out walk. C Alan Rick and 2B Carlo Cota cracked a pair of singles to plate Piepkorn and make it 4-1.
In the third, Mossey plunked Correll, his second hit batsman of the game, and Gaetti doubled him to third. 1B Freddy Thon hit a RBI single, RF Tim Alberts doubled him home and the JackHammers benefited from a booted ball. Mossey issued walks to Klein and 3B Vince Harrison and Correll capped the scoring with a three-run double as the JackHammers batted around for an eight-run third-inning to make it 12-1.
The RedHawks rallied for a pair of runs in the sixth. DH Ruben Salazar flared to right-field and Piepkorn hit an opposite-field two-run home run to make it 12-4. But the JackHammers got those two-runs back on an inside-the-park two-run home run by SS Kevin Rios for the game-lasting 14-4 lead.
The RedHawks are on the road against the Schaumburg Flyers tomorrow at Alexian Field. LHP Jeff Icenogle (2-0, 7.13) will toe the rubber for the RedHawks. RHP Ed Almonte (4-9, 5.16) will take to the mound for the Flyers.
