
JackHammers End Road Trip with 14-4 Win

FARGO, ND-The Joliet JackHammers (27-49) combined for 12 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to cruise to a 14-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (41-33) before 4,106 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Sunday afternoon.
The JackHammers scored four runs in the 2nd inning to take an early 4-0 lead. LF Brad Correll (2-4) hit a double and scored on a two-run home run by DH Joe Gaetti (2-5) for a 2-0 lead.
RF Tim Alberts (2-4) was hit by a pitch. C Christian Lopez (1-4) and 2B Rob Dahlberg (2-4) each singled. CF Adam Klein (2-5) hit a two-run double to make it 4-0.
The RedHawks scored a single run in the 2nd inning against Joliet RHP Jason Novak (2-3). 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn (1-3) walked with two outs and advanced to second base on a single by C Alan Rick (1-3). 2B Carlo Cota (1-3) singled home Piepkorn to slice the Joliet lead to 4-1.
Joliet scored eight runs on six hits in the 3rd inning. Correll was hit by a pitch and moved to third base on a double by Gaetti. Alberts laced a double to move Correll to third base.
2B Rob Dahlberg (2-4) smacked a two-run single to score Thon and Alberts for an 8-1 Joliet lead.
After Klein walked, SS Kevin Rios (2-6) hit an RBI single to score Dahlberg for a 9-1 lead. 3B Vince Harrison (1-4) came to the plate and worked a walk to load the bases. Correll smacked a bases-clearing double to give the JackHammers a 12-1 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead scored a single run in the 3rd inning to get within 10 runs at 12-2.
The RedHawks stayed off the scoreboard until Piepkorn launched a two-run home run in the 6th inning to make the score 12-4.
In the 7th inning, Rios hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run to give Joliet a 14-4 lead. Klein led off the inning with a single and Rios smacked a ball off the left field wall that kept rolling towards the field after RedHawks LF Justin Justice injured himself running into the left field wall.
Novak worked five innings and allowed two runs on six hits to get the win. RHP Derek Barrows worked four innings to get his first save of the season. It was the longest save recorded by the JackHammers this season.
The JackHammers and return home to start a three-game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. The JackHammers will host another Holy Half Price Monday at the game with half-off tickets for all groups. It's also All Faith Night at the ballpark! The JackHammers will give away Milano Bread to fans as they leave the game on Monday. The Goldeyes send RHP Mark Michael (2-3, 4.41) to the mound against a yet-to-be announced starting pitcher for the JackHammers.
