The Oklahoma RedHawks dropped the first contest of an eight game homestand Wednesday night, falling 5-3 to the Las Vegas 51s. The RedHawks managed to load the bases in the ninth but could not bring the tying runs across.

Las Vegas took an early 1-0 lead on a pair of hits in the first inning and added two more in the third before Oklahoma got on the board. Joaquin Arias hit the third of three straight singles in the home half of the third inning and drove in Drew Meyer. The 51s added a run in the top of the fourth when Wilkin Ruan scored on a triple by Jason Repko and took a 4-1 lead. Meyer and Travis Metcalf hit back-to-back singles to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Meyer crossed home on a ground out by Arias, and Metcalf scored on a double by Jason Ellison to close out the RedHawks scoring. Las Vegas tallied its final run in the sixth when Luis Maza scored on a single by Ruan.

Michael Ballard (1-2) took the loss, allowing all five runs on 12 hits over six and two thirds. Heath Totten (5-2) earned the win, pitching seven solid innings. Eric Cyr pitched the final two innings for his first save as a 51s. Metcalf and Meyer combined for seven of the 12 RedHawk hits. Ellison's double extended his hitting streak to eight games, while Nelson Cruz singled to extend his hitting streak to nine. Andy La Roche paced Las Vegas with three hits and two runs batted in.

Oklahoma and Las Vegas play the second game of the series Tuesday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
