Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Dallas McPherson belted a go-ahead, three-run homer in the ninth inning and the Albuquerque Isotopes rallied to beat the Portland Beavers 6-5 Wednesday night before 4,892 at PGE Park.
The Isotopes' rally came a half-inning after Portland plated four runs - highlighted by a three-run homer by Brett Dowdy - to take a two-run lead. But closer Edwin Moreno (5-3) gave up a leadoff single to Tommy Murphy and hit former Beaver Tagg Bozied with a pitch, settling the table for McPherson's three-run blast to deep right-center with one out. McPherson leads all professional baseball with 39 home runs on the season.
Peter Ciofrone lengthened his hitting streak to 27 games by going 2-for-5 and Paul McAnulty hit his fifth home run and drove in two runs for the Beavers, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ciofrone doubled and scored to cut the Beavers' deficit to 3-2 and Dowdy gave the Beavers a 5-3 lead with his three-run home run off Logan Kensing (1-0), who finished off the game to get his first win for Albuquerque (48-63).
Portland starter Josh Geer took a perfect game into the fifth inning, retiring the first 13 batters he faced. But after Geer allowed consecutive singles to Michael Ryan and Kevin Randel, Chase Lambin hit a two-run triple and scored on Brett Hayes' RBI groundout to give Albuquerque a 3-0 advantage.
McAnulty got the Beavers on the board with a solo home run off starter Bobby Keppel in the sixth, his second home run in as many games. Keppel was otherwise sharp, limiting the Beavers to two runs and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings.
The teams return to action Thursday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
