Oklahoma City Comets News Release
The Oklahoma City RedHawks dropped their home opener Friday night, falling 6-1 to the Memphis Redbirds at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Shane Robinson went 2-4 with two runs scored, including a double and a run in the first inning to pace Memphis in the win.
Robinson hit the second pitch from Elizardo Ramirez to centerfield for a leadoff double in the opening frame and came home to score four batters later on a wild pitch. Allen Craig followed with a run scoring single to drive in Jon Jay and stake Memphis to a 2-0 lead. The Redbirds would back starter Brad Thompson with an additional run in the second and two in the third to build a 5-0 lead.
Oklahoma City tallied its lone run in the home half of the third inning on Royce Huffman's first home run of the season. The RedHawks only managed six more baserunners during the rest of the game, and were limited to four hits total by three Memphis pitchers. The Redbirds added their final run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
Ramirez (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs over three innings worked, two of which were unearned. Thompson (1-0) earned the win, surrendering two hits over five full. Robinson and Matt Pagnozzi had two hits apiece for Memphis, while Jarrett Hoffpauir drove in a pair of runs. Pedro Borbon, Brandon Boggs, and Emerson Frostad had the other Oklahoma City hits.
The RedHawks and Redbirds meet in game two of this four game series Saturday evening at 7:05 pm. Derek Holland makes his second start of the season for Oklahoma City, and is slated to face off against Blake Hawksworth for Memphis at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
