New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The home season for the Zephyrs began with nine scoreless innings as New Orleans lost to the Nashville Sounds 9-0. Sounds' pitchers Nick Green and Chris Narveson spread out six hits and two walks combined, while striking out nine Z's.

Nashville got on the board in the top of the second with one run, but it was the three-run third and five-run sixth that put the game out of reach. With two out a man on first, Zephyrs' starter Dallas Trahern allowed three straight hits, including two doubles in the third. In the sixth Trahern was relieved and eight batters later the Sounds led 9-0.

No player for the Zephyrs had more than one hit as the team managed just six hits total to the Sounds' 14. Five players for Nashville had a multi-hit night and of their ten batters eight had at least one base-knock. No hit was bigger than Alcides Escobar's sixth-inning three-run home run.

Trahern got the loss for his first decision of the night. Nick Green picked up his first win of 2009, while Narveson earned his first save.

Game Notes: The Zephyrs have now played the Sounds in four of the last five home openers with Nashville winning three of those match-ups ... This was only the second time the Zephyrs were shutout in their home-opening game (2004 vs. Iowa) ... Gaby Sanchez extended his hit streak to eight straight games.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs play Nashville in game two of the four-game series at 6:00 Saturday night at Zephyr Field. Daniel Barone (0-0, 9.64) is scheduled to pitch against Nashville's Tim Dillard (1-0, 1.80). RADIO: AM 690 WIST.
