Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. -- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their weekend series in front of 3,812 fans at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks (15-6) received another spectacular effort from one of their starting pitchers. Chad Rhoades (3-0) pitched six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Rhoades struck out one and walked one.
Kansas City (14-9) starter Andrew Cruse (2-2) also turned in an outstanding game. He allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Cruse lowered his ERA to 0.58 in the game. Both of his losses this season have come at the hands of Fargo-Moorhead.
The T-Bones' lone run in the contest came on a line drive home run off the bat of third baseman Rico Washington in the top of the first inning.
The RedHawks answered in the fourth. They loaded the bases after Alan Rick's chopper was booted by Washington at third, Carlo Cota walked and Cory Patton singled. Cruse got ahead 1-2 on Fargo-Moorhead third baseman Jake Krause, but then plunked Krause while trying to come up-and-in with a fastball, scoring Rick. A sacrifice fly by left fielder Jay Cox and a ground out to short by leadoff hitter Mike Coles brought in two more runs, giving the RedHawks all the offense they would need on the afternoon.
Casey Hoorelbeke made his Northern League-leading 12th appearance of the season in relief for Fargo-Moorhead, pitching two scoreless innings. Donnie Smith got the final two outs of the game, earning his fourth save of the season.
The RedHawks will hit the road for a nine-game trip starting Tuesday in Joliet. Kansas City will return home to kick off a series against Gary starting tomorrow night.
