April 5, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Memphis designated hitter Ramon Urias blasted a two-run home run as part of a four-run fourth inning, while Omaha third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez accumulated two hits in his Triple-A debut in the Redbirds' 9-2 season-opening victory over the Storm Chasers on Thursday evening at Autozone Park.

Omaha struck first in the second frame courtesy of an RBI single from Gutierrez, his first career hit at the Triple-A level. Memphis, however, answered immediately in the bottom of the second via SS Edmundo Sosa's two-run single to grab a lead they would not relinquish.

Urias' longball followed LF Johan Mieses 's run-scoring triple and 3B Max Schrock's RBI double in the fourth to extend the Redbirds' advantage to 6-1. A trio of tallies in the seventh later increased the margin to eight. Omaha 1B Cheslor Cuthbert would close out the game's scoring in the eighth, lofting a sacrifice fly to score SS Nicky Lopez .

Mieses (2-5, 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI) and 2B Tommy Edman (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) each recorded multi-hit efforts for Memphis in the triumph, with Edman joining Urias in driving in two runs apiece. Gutierrez (2-4, RBI) was the lone batter from Omaha's order to post two or more knocks.

Memphis starter Austin Gomber (5.0 IP, 6 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 6 K) earned the win after yielding a lone earned run on six hits in five innings, with Redbirds relief men Ryan Meisinger (2.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K), Hunter Cervenka (1.0 IP, R, ER, BB, K) and Giovanny Gallegos (1.0 IP, K) joining forces to yield just one hit over the final four frames. Storm Chasers starter Heath Fillmyer (4.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat, while righty Josh Staumont (1.2 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K) tossed 1.2 shutout frames of relief.

The two teams are set to meet again on Friday evening at Autozone Park , with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez is anticipated to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with Memphis expected to send RHP Jake Woodford to the hill.

Omaha returns to Werner Park to begin a seven-game homestand on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch that evening is set for 6:35pm CT.
