Reno Aces News Release
Fresno, California - The 2019 baseball season is officially underway following the Reno Aces first contest Thursday night in Fresno, California. Reno dropped their first game by a score of 5-4 despite a strong outing from starter Taylor Clarke. The Arizona Diamondbacks' number 11 prospect according to Baseball America went five innings and allowed just four hits while striking out two. 2018 All-PCL selection Kevin Cron launched his first home run of the season leading off the top of the 8th inning, but it wasn't enough to spark the Aces.
Former Aces outfielder and current Fresno Grizzlies outfielder Collin Cowgill got the home team into the scoring column with a solo blast off Clarke. Jacob Wilson followed Cowgill's lead with another solo homer to get the bottom of the fifth rolling. The Aces kept the score tied up at two before a two-run Fresno 7th gave the Grizzlies a 4-2 advantage. Cron's home run in the top of the 8th got the Aces closer and Domingo Leyba's triple to score Kelby Tomlinson sent the game to extra innings. Fresno inched out a victory with a walkoff-single in the bottom of the 10th. This is just the third Opening Day loss for the Biggest Little Ball Club, and first in their last five showings. Reno will square off against the Grizzlies again tomorrow night with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
