Salt Lake Bees News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Salt Lake Bees opened their 25th anniversary season with a 11-4 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Minor League Opening Night. The top third of the Bees order combined to go 7-for-15 on the night with Luis Rengifo, Taylor Ward and Matt Thaiss all driving in RBI singles in the second inning to give the Bees an early 3-0 lead. Catcher Jose Briceno would break the game open with a grand slam in the sixth inning. The grand slam was the second Opening Day slam in franchise history, the other coming on April 7, 2005 off the bat of David Matranga.

Jaime Barria got the start for the Bees, striking out eight batters while allowing four runs (three earned) to pick up the win. Sam Freeman, John Curtiss and Matt Ramsey combined to finish the final three and two-thirds innings without allowing a run out of the Salt Lake bullpen. Briceno led all batters with four hits and drove in five runs on the night. Thaiss and Jared Walsh would each drive in a pair, with Walsh hitting a solo home run in the 9th inning to pad the Bees lead.

The Bees will face the Isotopes four more times in Albuquerque before returning to Salt Lake for the home opener at Smith's Ballpark on Tuesday night. Tickets and more information is available at www.slbees.com.
