MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Jason Ryan worked six solid innings as the Memphis Redbirds (57-74) held on to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs (67-65), 6 to 4 on Wednesday Night in Memphis.
Ryan (8-6) allowed a run and six hits before leaving with his team ahead 4-1, winning for the first time in five starts and improving to 5-2 at home. Matt Duff earned his first save of the season by striking out the only man he faced as Memphis won its fifth in a row versus New Orleans. Marty Malloy finished with three hits and two RBI and Wilson Delgado added a two-run single to lead the offense for the Redbirds.
Jose Vizcaino, playing in the second game of a rehab stint as he recovers from a wrist injury, and Alan Zinter each hit a solo homer for the Zephyrs, who have lost three straight and nine of 12. Randy Keisler (1-3) surrendered three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.
The Zephyrs are tied with Oklahoma for second place in the PCL East Division, 5 ½ games behind Nashville. Nashville defeated Oklahoma 4 to 0 on Wednesday Night.
