Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers are hosting a school-supply drive to help ensure that Portland students will have the tools they need to succeed during the coming school year. The drive will take place at the Beavers vs. Tacoma game on Sunday, August 24.

The Beavers and XO Communications are teaming up with Schoolhouse Supplies, a non-profit organization that collects supplies from businesses and provides them free of charge to teachers in the Portland Public School District.

There are over 20,000 students living in poverty within the district and teachers spend an average of $500 of their own money each year to provide basic supplies to students. Budget cuts and economic conditions have made the need even greater.

Teachers say that the most needed supplies are: calculators, folders, pencils, paper, spiral notebooks, scissors, glue, art materials, backpacks, dictionaries, crayons, erasers and rulers.

Supplies do not have to be brand new, but in "like-new" condition.
