Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Angelys Nina hit a two-run single in the top of the 11th inning to give the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes a 4-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Monday night at AutoZone Park.
The defeat was Memphis' season-worst sixth in a row, which is the longest since the club dropped seven straight from June 23 - July 2, 2014. The Redbirds remain 6.0 games behind division-leading Round Rock in the PCL American Southern Division, and move to 2-4 in extra-inning affairs.
The Redbirds were held to three hits in the defeat, all of which that went for extra bases. Outfielder Xavier Scruggs hit his 12th home run of the season in the sixth inning, followed by third baseman Jacob Wilson doubling later that frame. Outfielder Rafael Ortega also doubled in the loss.
Rafael Ynoa gave Albuquerque a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single. The Isotopes added their next run in the sixth inning as Roger Bernadina singled to center, scoring Trevor Story.
The Redbirds were held hitless through the first six frames before Scruggs went deep over the left field videowall. It was the slugger's first home run in 150 at-bats since June 17 at Nashville. Later in the frame with two outs, Wilson doubled off the left field wall to score Greg Garcia, who worked a walk to reach.
Redbirds starter Zach Petrick hurled his team-leading 13th quality start in the no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits. He also walked one and struck out five.
Right-hander Mitch Harris (0-3) came away with the loss, giving up a pair of runs in the 11th inning.
The Redbirds and Isotopes wrap up their series at 7:05pm CT on Tuesday night from AutoZone Park. Left-hander John Gast (5-9, 4.98) will toe the rubber in the series finale against Albuquerque right-hander Eddie Butler (2-2, 6.27).
