
Luis Sardinas Named PCL Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Pacific Coast League have announced that infielder Luis Sardinas has been named the PCL Player of the Week for August 10-15.
Sardinas, 22, hit .444 (12-for-27) with a home run, two doubles, 10 runs scored, four RBI and three stolen bases in seven games during the week. That included a four-hit game and a pair of three-hit contests against the Round Rock Express. He hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, on August 11while finishing 3-for-4 in a comeback 7-5 win over Round Rock. In the series finale against the Express on August 14 he went 4-for-6 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
On the season, Sardinas is hitting .270 (80-for-296) with a home run, 14 doubles, four triples, 39 runs scored and 26 RBI in 80 games with the Sky Sox. He tied a Sky Sox franchise-high with four stolen bases against Omaha on May 5 and is tied for the team-lead with 13 steals on the year. He also played in 20 games with the Milwaukee Brewers hitting .221 (15-for-68) with a triple, seven runs scored and one RBI. His stint with the Brewers was from May 16-June 8.
A native of Bolivar, Venezuela, Sardinas was acquired from the Texas Rangers organization on January 19, 2015 along with RH Corey Knebel and RH Marcos Diplan in exchange for RH Yovani Gallardo and cash consideration. Prior to the trade, Baseball America rated Sardinas as the No. 7 Prospect in the Rangers organization and the slotted him as the third-best prospect in the Brewers organization following the trade.
Sardinas is the first Sky Sox player to win the PCL Player of the Week Award this season. RH Hiram Burgos was previously named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 13-19. The last Sky Sox player to be named PCL Player of the Week was Matt McBride for the period of July 21-28, 2014.
