
Redbirds edge Royals in Game 1

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis edged Omaha 3-2 Saturday afternoon at AutoZone Park to take the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
The Royals were on the board first in the second inning with a Brian Buchanan home run before the Redbirds responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. David Freese's single tied the game and D'Angelo Jimenez put Memphis on top driving in a run with a double play. The 'Birds tacked on another run in the seventh inning on a Jimenez sacrifice fly to left field to make it 3-1.
Redbirds starter Anthony Reyes was solid in six innings of work. Reyes allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts to earn his second win with Memphis. Omaha scored a run in the ninth inning off reliever Kelvin Jimenez before the right-hander notched his team-best 11th save of the season. Royals starter Roman Colon took the loss giving up three runs on seven hits over seven innings.
Memphis and Omaha play tonight at 6:05 p.m. Tyler Norrick is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut after being promoted from Single-A Palm Beach. The Royals send Jose Capellan to the mound to make his Royals debut.
