Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHTfS GAME: Behind two more hits and three RBI from Chris Colabello and another strong start from Andrew Albers, the Wings got back in the win column and snapped a mini, two-game losing streak with an 8-2 series opening victory over the Gwinnett Braves on Thursday. Tonight, the Wings send southpaw Pedro Hernandez to the mound looking to keep the momentum rolling in game two of this four-game series at Frontier Field. Rochester has won 11 of their last 17 games and with Pawtucket and Norfolk both rained out last night, the Red Wings moved within 7.5 games in the North and Wild Card... Meanwhile, Gwinnett, Atlantafs top affiliate, has dropped to 4-8 in the month of June but are still 16-15 in their last 31 games since a season-high 14-game losing streak 4/27-5/11.

AMONG BASEBALLfS BEST: 1B/OF Chris Colabello went 2-for-3 Thursday with a double and three RBI and is now 7-for-12 with five RBI over the last three games to raise his season batting average to .366 -- the 2nd-best mark in all of baseball (MiLB & MLB). Hefs now collected multiple hits in 11 of his last 18 games with the Wings... He trails only Corey Dickerson of Colorado Springs (AAA; Rockies) who is batting .367 on the year. Colabellofs .644 SLG % ranks first in the International League and 5th best in all of baseball while his 1.070 OPS also ranks first in the IL, 2nd in the minor leagues and 4th in all of baseball behind MLB stars Chris Davis (1.105) and Miguel Cabrera (1.087)... Back in the IL, Colabello ranks among the league leaders in RBI (T-4th, 46), hits (4th, 74), doubles (T-2nd, 20), OBP (3rd, .427), XBH (3rd, 32) and TB (3rd, 130) -- impressive considering hefs missed 14 games due to his three ML promotions and prior to Monday had just 30 total ABfs over a 19-span from 5/22-6/9.

¨Through two weeks of fan voting, Colabello is the top vote-getter among all IL position players.

¨Colabello is riding a 14-game home hitting streak over which hefs batting .481 (26-54) with 3 HR and 16 RBI.

¨Colabello has a hit in 28 of his last 30 games with the Wings and has reached base in 20 straight with Rochester.

THE SPARK PLUG: Wings leadoff man Antoan Richardson ignited the offense once again last night as he reached base three more times going 2-for-4 with a run, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base... Richardsonfs .452 OBP between Rochester and New Britain this season is 5th-best in all of baseball while is 50 walks are 3rd-best in the game (CINfs Joey Votto & MISf Christian Marrero, 51). With the Wings, he owns a .447 OBP, a team-leading 28 walks and 10 stolen bases and 21 runs scored - 3rd on the team - in just 29 games... The six other Wings who have hit leadoff this season (Thomas, Olmedo, Dinkelman, Farris, Herrmann and Benson) hit a combined .214 (34-for-159) with only 17 runs, 14 RBI, 13 walks and 4 stolen bases in 38 games from the leadoff spot.

UNEXPECTED POP: Wings slick fielding SS Doug Bernier hit his 3rd home run of the season in his 195th at-bat on Thursday night. Prior to this year, Bernier had hit just one long ball in 892 ABfs over the past four seasons in the IL... Bernierfs first HR of the season came on 5/15 vs DUR and was just the second HR of his IL career and came on exactly is 1,000 International League at-bat. When he hit his 2nd homer of the year on 5/30 vs LHV it gave him his first multi-homer season since a career-high 9 in 2008 with Colorado Springs... Bernierfs 28 RBI this season is the 4th highest total in his 12-year pro career.

PAIR OF ACES: The combination of Andrew Albers and Kyle Gibson are 11-7 with a 3.09 ERA (53 ER/154.1 IP) this season... The rest of the Red Wings starters are 10-15 with a 4.88 ERA while the other three starters in the Wings current rotation are 3-6 with a 6.47 ERA (46 ER/64 IP)... The duo has won their last nine decisions over 11 combined starts while recording two complete-game shutouts and posting eight quality starts. The last loss for either hurler was Gibsonfs May 14 loss v DUR.

¨These aces were in very different places three years ago -- Gibson was the 2010 Twins MiLB Pitcher of the Year reaching as high as Triple-A Rochester while Albers pitched out of the bullpen in the independent Can-Am league

VS THE G-BRAVES: The Wings have now won four of the first five meetings against the Braves this season after Thursdayfs 8-2 win. The two teams hooked up last week in Gwinnett as the Red Wings won the series three games to one. It was the first time since 1995 that the Red Wings won a road series against Atlantafs Triple-A affiliate. Prior to this season, the Wings had not fared well against Gwinnett going just 13-19 vs the Braves since they moved from Richmond to Gwinnett in 2009. Last season it was the Braves who took the season series, 3-5, from the Red Wings. The Wings just need to split this four-game set to earn their first season series win over the Braves top affiliate since the 2006 season (6-2).

¨The Wings will face LHP Yohan Flande tonight who didnft make it out of the first inning last Friday vs ROC (L, 0.2ip, 7h, 7r)

PLOUFFE, THERE IT IS!: The rehabbing Trevor Plouffe went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and 3 RBI on Tuesday afternoon in his second game with the Red Wings as he rehabs from a concussion and calf strain that have sidelined him since May 21... The homer was Plouffefs 47th career home run as a Red Wing -- 2nd most all-time in the Twins era behind Garrett Jonesf 81 career home runs... Over the first three games of his rehab stint he is 3-for-10 with a homer, 3 runs and 3 RBI.
