RED WINGS GAME NOTES - Wednesday, August 20 (7:05 p.m.)

Rochester Red Wings (70-61) @ Buffalo Bisons (68-61) - Coca-Cola Field, Buffalo, NY

RHP Alex Meyer (6-6, 3.37) vs. LHP Brad Mills (1-0, 3.14)

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings continue their 4-game road trip with the finale of 2-game series tonight (7:05) against the Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) at Coca-Cola Field. The Wings took the opener and have now won back-to-back games after going just 6-12 in their previous 18 contests. With only 13 games remaining in the regular season, Rochester sits in 3rd place in the IL North -- 5.0 GB of SYR for the division lead and 2.0 GB of Pawtucket for the Wild Card. Meanwhile, despite last night's loss, Buffalo has gone 20-9 since July 21 to climb back into the Wild Card race as they're in 4th place in the North -- 3.0 GB of the Paw Sox.

- vs. BUF: The Wings are 2-5 against the Bisons at Coca-Cola Field this season and only 13-26 at CCF since '10...If BUF wins just 1 of the remaining 3 G between the two teams, they would win the season series for a 5th straight year.

WITH A WIN TONIGHT...:

- The Wings will have their first 3-game win streak since a 6-game streak, July 22-27.

- The Wings will sweep a 2-game set against BUF for the first time since May 5, 2012 (DH) at Frontier Field and for the first time at Coca-Cola Field since July 21-22, 2010.

TONIGHT'S WINGS STARTER: Twins top pitching prospect RHP Alex Meyer will make his 25th start of the season for the Wings tonight and his 4th against the Bisons (0-1, 4.91 ERA in 3 previous GS). Meyer has struggled over his last 2 outings, going 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA (6 ER/5.2 IP) allowing 12 hits (4 XBH) and 5 walks. This tough stretch immediately followed a 7-start span (6/28-8/3) over which he went 2-0, 1.77 ERA (8 ER/40.2 IP) while limiting opposing hitters to a .162 BAA & allowed only 4 XBH. Still, Meyer ranks 8th in the IL in ERA (3.37), 2nd in BAA (.230) and 2nd in SO (139) -- Meyer could become the first Wing to lead the IL in strikeouts since Boof Bonsor in 2005 (168 SO).

- He's allowed 2 or fewer ER in 17 of 24 GS this season, but ROC is just 12-12 in his 24 GS as he's received the least amount of support (3.4 R/G)...All other starters w/ at least 10 GS for ROC have received no less than 4.3 R/G.

PINTO PACING THE OFFENSE: Wings C/DH Josmil Pinto has collected multiple hits in 10 of 18 August games, hitting .375 (24-for-64) with 11 XBH and 15 RBI raising his average nearly 50 points. His .375 August mark is T-5th best in the IL. Over his last 28 games, Pinto is batting .333 (33-99) with 12 2B, 3B, 4 HR and 27 RBI. Over his first 20 games after being optioned down from Minnesota, he batted just .246 with 6 XBH and 7 RBI.

HOT WINGS: OF Wilkin Ramirez has a hit in 13 of his 14 August games, batting .339 (19-54) with 5 XBH and 9 RBI... Over his last 9 games, INF Pedro Florimon is hitting .387 (12-for-31) with 5 2B, 3B and 7 RBI...OF Daniel Ortiz has a hit in 14 of last 16 starts, batting .344 (21-61) w/ 6 2B, 2 HR, 10 R and 9 RBI. His .370 average in August is 7th-best in the IL...Over his last 4 G, C/OF Chris Herrmann has 3 2B, HR, 3 R and 4 RBI.

CC HITTING THE LONG BALL: Wings 1B Chris Colabello hit his team-leading 9th HR of the season (in 48 games) on Tuesday and the 33rd of his Red Wings career in 137 games. The 33 homers are the 7th-most by a Red Wings player in the Twins era (2003- ). In his Wings career, he's homered once every 15.36 AB's -- for comparison sake TOL's Mike Hessman leads the IL with a 1/15.48 HR/AB ratio this season.

- CC's home run on Tuesday night was the 65th of his affiliated ball career (385 G) since the beginning of 2012.

OLIVEROS ON A ROLL: After tossing 2.0 scoreless innings on Tuesday, Wings reliever Lester Oliveros has now thrown 16.1 straight scoreless innings over his last 9 G (7 H, 4 BB & 27 SO). The 16.1-inning streak is the longest by a Wings reliever this season and 2nd longest streak on the team (Y. Pino, 16.2 IP from 4/22-5/9). Oliveros has struck out multiple batters in each of his last 12 appearances (35 SO/20.2 IP) and in 15 of his 19 G. If he had enough innings to qualify, his 13.81 SO/9 IP ratio would be best among IL relievers.

- Over his last 6 appearances (10.1 IP), Oliveros has allowed 3 hits and 1 BB with 17 SO.

MORE ABOUT YESTERDAY...:

- Chris Herrmann tied a Wings season-high by notching an RBI in a 4th straight game (4 total RBI).

- Tyler Duffey (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R/ER) turned in his 2nd quality start in as many outings w/ the Wings as he improved to 2-0.

- Wilkin Ramirez slugged his 4th home run of the season in the 5th inning and his first since July 6 vs. BUF.

- Pedro Florimon collected his first 3 RBI game of the season and his first since 9/27/13 with Minnesota.

- Wings starters have now surrendered a home run in each of last 7 games (9 total HR). - The Wings have walked 12 times over the last 2 games after drawing just 8 BB over the previous 5 games.
