Johnson Placed on the DL, Sierra Promoted to Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte second baseman Micah Johnson, who began the season ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the White Sox organization by Baseball America, was placed on the DL today (retroactive to August 18). Johnson, who played in the 16th Annual Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game earlier this season, hit .275 (75-for-273) with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 28 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases for the Knights in 65 games.

Johnson, 23, began the 2014 season with Double-A Birmingham and was leading the Southern League in hitting with an impressive .329 mark at the time of his promotion on May 13. He had 18 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 16 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases for the Barons in 37 games. A native of Indianapolis, IN, Johnson led Minor League Baseball last season with 84 steals combined from his time with Kannapolis (A), Winston-Salem (A+), and Birmingham (AA).

Luis Sierra, 27, appeared in 25 games for the Double-A Birmingham Barons this season and hit .197 (15-for-76) with four runs scored, three doubles, and eight RBIs. A native of Barranquilla, Columbia, Sierra was originally signed by the White Sox as a free agent on March 15, 2007. He made his professional debut in 2004 with the VSL Reds.
