Portland, Maine: The Boston Red Sox have expanded their advance scouting operation by promoting Sea Dogs' manager Todd Claus to the position of Major League Advance Scout. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein. No replacement has been announced for Claus.

Todd Claus, named Baseball America's 2006 Double-A Manager of the Year after guiding Portland to the Eastern League Championship, joins Dana Levangie in the role of Major League Advanced Scout. The pair will split time handling the advance scouting duties and serving as coaching assistants to Terry Francona and the major league staff.

Claus, 36, led the Sea Dogs to a 72-67 record in 2006 and the franchise's first Eastern League Championship. In two years as the Sea Dogs manager, Claus posted a 148-133 (.527) record and led the team to two straight Eastern League Championship appearances. Claus managed the Eastern League Northern Division All-Star team and coached in the Major League Baseball Futures Game in both 2005 and 2006.

The 2006 season was the fifth season as a minor league manager for Claus and his third season in the Red Sox organization. Claus has a career managerial record of 371-324 (.534). He was the eighth manager in Sea Dogs history.

Claus is currently in Hawaii coaching in the revived Hawaiian Winter Baseball League. The Sea Dogs will be honoring Claus and his Eastern League Championship with a Todd Claus bobblehead doll giveaway on May 10th, made possible by U.S. Cellular. The giveaway is to the first 1,000 fans to enter the gate.

The Sea Dogs open the 2007 season on Thursday, April 5th at 6:00 PM against the Connecticut Defenders at Hadlock Field. Tickets for the 2007 season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or on-line at www.seadogs.com.
