Maine Celtics News Release

Brooklyn, NY -The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, struggled to score and could not stop the Long Island Nets Wednesday afternoon, 116-107 at Barclays Center.

Abdel Nader, playing his first game since Nov. 22, returned from his shoulder injury to lead Maine with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Marcus Georges-Hunt also finished with 22 points, while Jalen Jones added a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, Asauhn Dixon-Tatum led the bench with 12 points and Coron Williams finished with 11 points.

Nader and the Red Claws (9-4) started red hot - opening the game on a 10-0 run with Nader scoring eleven of the first 15 points for Maine. Long Island (3-11) went on a small run to get back in the game, but Jones and company settled down; Jones dropped in a pair of buckets to help extend the lead to 25-16. Georges-Hunt's block at the end of the 1st quarter left it at 32-23 Maine.

In the 2nd quarter, the Nets came roaring back. Donnie McGrath's three-pointer gave Long Island a 42-40 lead. Mike Smith, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, dropped in a three-pointer, while Chris McCullough, on assignment from Brooklyn, added a couple of baskets as well. When the dust settled on the quarter, Long Island out-scored Maine 35-17, taking a 58-49 lead into the break. The Red Claws shot just 37% from the field in the first half.

The 3rd quarter did not go much better for the Red Claws. Yogi Ferrell made seven consecutive shots for Long Island, and again Maine was out-scored 34-21. Coron Williams made a three to get it to 12 points, but an 11-2 run to end the quarter put the Nets up 92-70 after three. The Red Claws tried to make a run in the 4th quarter - Asauhn Dixon-Tatum cut it to 15 with 8:45 to go; Damion Lee's floater got it to ten at 105-95. A pair of Jones free throws got the deficit to eight, but the Red Claws could get no closer - Ferrell's floater in the lane late in the 4th was the dagger. The Red Claws wound up shooting 43% (39-91) from the field, but just 28% (7-25) from three-point range and 23-31 (71%) from the free throw line. Long Island shot 49% (46-93) from the floor, 39% (11-28) from downtown, and 13-16 from the charity stripe.

The Red Claws return home this weekend for a pair of games this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are on sale now by calling 207-210-6655 or visiting MaineRedClaws.com.
