Red Claws Fall at Showcase

Mississauga, Ontario - January 11, 2018 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, lost a 17-point lead, then erased a 15-point deficit, only to fall to the Reno Bighorns 118-113 at the NBA G League Showcase.

Maine (12-12) was led by L.J. Peak with 23 points off the bench. Anthony Bennett had his best game with the Red Claws, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Kadeem Allen added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and Daniel Dixon scored 17 points off the bench in a hot-shooting performance. Andrew White scored 12 for Maine, and Devin Williams recorded another double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

Reno (13-11) had seven players in double-digits, led by Aaron Harrison with 19 points off the bench.

The Red Claws jumped out to an early lead thanks to Bennett. The former #1 NBA Draft Pick dropped in back-to-back three's as Maine opened the game on an 11-0 run. The lead extended to 19-2 Maine when Bennett knocked in yet another three. Dixon knocked in back-to-back three's - the Red Claws took a 34-22 lead after 1.

In the 2nd, the Bighorns came roaring back, cutting the lead to 34-30 after a Cody Demps three-ball. Reno took the lead momentarily, but Dixon buried two more from downtown to make it 49-47 Red Claws. Reno's hot shooting in the 2nd quarter continued, as the Bighorns out-scored Maine 41-23 in the 2nd quarter. Reno took a 63-57 halftime lead. Bennett led the Claws with 19 points and 9 boards in the first half.

The second half saw Reno extend its lead to 12 at 72-60. Allen stopped the bleeding for Maine with his driving bucket. Peak knocked in a corner three of his own, and Andrew White's reverse lay-up got it back to 10. White's three-point play made it 79-71 Reno. Jack Cooley and the Bighorns stopped the run, and Reno's lead was back to 89-74. When the dust settled on the 3rd, Reno held a 94-83 lead.

In the 4th, the Red Claws quickly cut the deficit down to 6 points. Allen's 3 point play made it 97-93 Reno. Allen then buried a deep 3 to make it a 1 point game. Dixon's drive and score gave Maine a 98-97 lead and Maine on a 15-3 run to open the quarter. Daniel Dingle dropped in a bucket, as the run extended to 22-7. David Stockton got Reno the lead back. In the final minute, Marcus Williams buried a huge three to put the Bighorns up 4.

Maine shot 47% from the floor (43-91), and 34% (16-47) from downtown, while going 11-15 from the free throw line. Reno shot 51% (48-95) from the field, 44% (14-32) from beyond the arc, and 8-13 from the charity stripe.

The Red Claws return to action Saturday at the NBA G League Showcase, when the Claws take on Memphis. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. Maine returns home on Monday, Jan. 15 for its makeup game against Austin.
