Red Claws Defeat Rival Armor 102-88

AUGUSTA, ME - The Maine Red Claws played their only preseason game of their second season at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta tonight, defeating the Springfield Armor 102-88 in front of a crowd of 3,018.

The Red Claws started out the first half strong, earning a 27-16 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Armor fought back with a 10-1 run at the end of the second quarter, bringing the halftime score to only a four-point deficit. The Red Claws lead at the half with a score of 44-40.

The Red Claws brought much more energy to the court at the beginning of the third quarter. Springfield kept the score close, but the Red Claws had the answer by establishing a 13-1 run with three minutes remaining. Red Claws Guard Lawrence Westbrook was fouled as he hit a three- point buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter. bringing the score to 77-58.

The Red Claws will begin their regular season by hosting the Austin Toros this Friday, November 19 with the first of two back-to-back games at the Portland Expo. Both contests will tip off at 7 PM and great seats remain for both. Saturday's contest will feature a halftime performance by the nationally known dunk team, the Rim Rockers. Rally towels will be distributed to the first 1,500 fans, courtesy of the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein. Saturday will be Magnetic Schedule Night, courtesy of Unitil, with halftime performance by the Woodside One Wheelers.

The Armor will open their season on November 19 as well with the first of back-to-back contest with the visiting Erie BayHawks. The two conference rivals will then meet for the first time during the regular season as the Red Claws visit Springfield on November 26 and 27.
