
Sonny Allen Named Bighorns Coaching Consultant

RENO, Nev.- Former University of Nevada head coach Sonny Allen has been named a coaching consultant with the Reno Bighorns, adding another well-respected basketball mind to an already impressive coaching staff.
Allen, who led the Wolf Pack from 1980-1987, boasts a 613-383 career coaching record over more than 40 years at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. Allen most recently coached the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs from 1998-2001.
Allen is widely recognized as the innovator behind the five-man fast break, which he implemented for the first time at Old Dominion University in 1966. Allen led ODU for 10 seasons, culminating in a Division II national championship and A.P. National Coach of the Year honors in the 1974-75 season.
While at Nevada, Allen led the Wolf Pack to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearances in 1984 and 1985. During his seven years with the Wolf Pack, Allen's teams went a combined 114-89, and Allen earned two Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year awards.
