Red Bull New York News Release
HARRISON, NJ - The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have signed defender Ibrahim Sekagya. Sekagya will be added to New York's roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
"We are delighted to sign Ibrahim and we are sure his experience will strengthen our options in defense," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. "He was well respected and liked by our colleagues at Red Bull Salzburg and we are confident he can play a role in our team as we enter into the second half of our regular season."
Featuring mainly as a center back, Sekagya was with Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga from 2007 to the conclusion of the club's most recent campaign, featuring in a total of 165 games and scoring six goals. He began his professional career in Uganda and then went to Argentina in 2001, playing with Atletico de Rafela. The 32-year-old also enjoyed stints at Ferro Carril Oeste (2002-05) and Argentina first division squad, Arsenal de Sarandi (2005-07).
Sekagya was a member of the Ugandan National Team and was part of the side's 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns. He earned 26 caps, scoring three goals and was captain for his country until he retired from international soccer.
