New York Red Bulls News Release

SECAUCUS, NJ (August 11, 2008) - New York Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 20 today after his two-goal performance helped the Red Bulls to a 4-1 win over D.C. United Sunday at Giants Stadium, snapping a five-game unbeaten streak and putting the Red Bulls (6-6-7, 25 pts.) in a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. This is the first time in 2008 that a Red Bull has earned MLS Player of the Week honors.

With the Red Bulls down, 1-0, Angel got New York on the scoreboard when he curled in a 23-yard free kick in the 27th minute. After New York took a 2-1 lead into halftime, Angel doubled the Red Bulls' lead five minutes into the second half, latching onto a loose ball outside of the penalty box before lobbing it over the goalkeeper for his sixth multi-goal performance of his career.

Angel, who was twice named the MLS Player of the Week in 2007 (Weeks 7 & 19), has tallied a team-high six goals and two assists in 12 games played. Named to his second-consecutive MLS All-Star Game in July, Angel has scored four goals in the past four regular season games after missing a month of action due to hamstring and back injuries.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com.

The Red Bulls continue a three-game homestand on Sunday, when they host Toronto FC at Giants Stadium (TV: MSG; Radio: WADO 1280). Kickoff time is set for 5 PM ET. For tickets, please call the Red Bulls at 1.877.RBSOCCER or log onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.
