New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution continues its quest for its second tournament title of 2008 on Tuesday evening when the club travels to rival D.C. United for the teams' semifinal match in the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. At 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, the teams will meet in the all-MLS semifinal for a spot in the championship match against the winner of the all USL-1 semifinal between the Seattle Sounders Charleston Battery, which is also being played on Tuesday evening. A live audio broadcast of the Revolution-United semifinal will be available at www.revolutionsoccer.net.

New England - which is 10-6-3 all-time in the competition and earned its first-ever cup championship with a victory in the 2007 U.S. Open Cup - has advanced to the semifinals this year behind a 3-0 victory over the USL-2's Richmond Kickers on July 1 and a 5-3 win in penalty kicks (following a 1-1 draw after extra time) against Crystal Palace Baltimore on July 8 in the quarterfinals. D.C. United has reached the semifinals behind victories over the Rochester Rhinos (2-0, July 1) and Chicago Fire (2-1 in extra time, July 8).

While the Revolution and United are bitter MLS rivals, Tuesday's match is just the second between the clubs in U.S. Open Cup play. The teams also met in the 2001 semifinals, with the Revolution advancing to the championship match behind a 2-0 victory at the old Foxboro Stadium.
