New York Red Bulls News Release

The New York Red Bulls (8-11-7, 31 points) battled to a 1-1 draw against Philadelphia Union (10-7-9, 39 points) on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.

Philadelphia Union scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, when Jamiro Monteiro played in a corner that deflected off a New York defender. The ball landed at the feet of Sergio Santos, who tapped the ball into the net to give the Union the lead.

New York answered back in the 37th minute of play after Cristian Cásseres, Jr. played a ball into the feet of Omir Fernandez, who volleyed the ball from the top of Philadelphia's eighteen-yard box and scored.

The Red Bulls extended their unbeaten streak to four matches for the first time since June, which extended from June 27 to July 21.

Fernandez has scored a goal in two-straight matches and three in his last four.

The Bronx, NY native scored his first goal at Red Bull Arena this season. He has now scored three MLS regular season goals at Red Bull Arena in his career.

Fernandez and forward Patryk Klimala combined for six of New York's nine goals this month.

Cásseres, Jr. tallied his first assist of the season after recording three assists in 2020. He now has scored four goals and added one assist this year.

Forward Tom Barlow made his 50th career MLS regular season appearance coming on as a substitute in the 58th minute.

New York only allowed five goals in six matches during the month of September.

New York Captain Sean Davis made his 133rd career MLS regular season start and has tied Dane Richards for fifth place in franchise history in MLS regular season games started.

Davis made his 199th appearance in all competitions for the Red Bulls. He is one match shy of becoming just the third player in franchise history to record 200 appearances across all competitions.

The Red Bulls captured nine points in six matches during the month of September after gaining 22 points in their previous 20 matches.

Defender Kyle Duncan earned his ninth yellow card of the season and will be suspended for New York's next match against FC Cincinnati on October 2.

Following Wednesday's match, New York heads to TQL Stadium for the first time since May 25, 2019, to face FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on MSG, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
