Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC announced today that the Club is working with Official Community Partner, Q2 Holdings Inc., to host a blood drive benefiting donation center We Are Blood on Wednesday, October 20 at Q2 Stadium. Empowering Austinites to help their community, the event is set to provide blood and platelet donations to over 40 hospitals and clinics in 10 Central Texas counties during an extreme shortage of blood reserves in the area brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are excited to join forces with Austin FC and We Are Blood to raise awareness around the urgent need to increase the blood supply for our Austin community," said Matt Flake, Chief Executive Officer at Q2. "Q2's mission is to build strong communities and we are honored to support this great cause that will positively impact so many lives."
Founded in Austin in 1951 as the Travis County Medical Society Blood Bank, We Are Blood has provided and protected Central Texas' blood supply ever since. As the community's exclusive blood supplier, the non-profit organization aims to inspire Central Texans to save lives locally through blood donations.
"We're grateful to Austin FC and Q2 for partnering with We Are Blood to host a blood drive that will save lives in the Central Texas community," said Nick Canedo, Vice President of Community Engagement at We Are Blood. "During a trying year, Austin FC has given our community a reason to cheer and together with Q2 rallies Central Texans to make a lifesaving difference for local patients in need."
The blood drive will take place in Q2 Stadium's Captain Morgan Club from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 20, and employees of both Austin FC and Q2 will volunteer to staff the event. The blood drive requires all participants to pre-register for a specific time slot in advance. No walk-up appointments can be made.
