Auston Trusty, Jack Price Named to MLS Team of the Week
September 30, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release
Auston Trusty and Jack Price were named to the Week 28 MLS Team of the Week for their performances in the Colorado Rapids' 3-0 victory over Austin FC on Wednesday.
Price connected with Trusty on a corner kick for his first goal of the season to make it 3-0 in the 59th minute. It was Trusty's first goal since joining the club after 2019 - "one and a half," he joked after the match, alluding to his shot against Dallas on May 29 that was officially credited as an own goal. Trusty's goal against Austin was also Colorado's ninth off a corner this season and its 11th from a set piece. It is Trusty's first Team of the Week Best XI selection of the season despite anchoring a defense with the second-best defensive record in the league.
For Price, Trusty's goal was his second assist of the evening after combining with Steven Beitashour to find Jonathan Lewis for the opening goal at the stroke of halftime, giving him a team-high four game-winning assists this season. The former Wolves player is now tied for second in MLS with 11 assists this season and leads the league with seven off set pieces. This is the Rapids captain's second Team of the Week bench selection in the last three weeks.
Price's two assists sandwiched Nico Mezquida's first goal of the season just moments into the second half. The Rapids now have 15 goal scorers this season, third-most in MLS, and 20 players with at least one goal or assist, tied for fourth in the league.
The midweek match was also notable as goalkeeper William Yarbrough picked up his 11th clean sheet of the season, setting an individual single-season club record, while tying the league lead for most shutouts on the year. He showed his toughness and leadership when he stayed in the match after a heavy collision that required brief medical attention, finishing with four saves. He is up to 82 saves this season, fourth-most in MLS.
The Rapids are now tied for the league lead with 11 goals off set pieces this season and have 39 since 2019, by far the most in MLS.
A proud night for assistant and goalkeeper coach (and set piece guru) Chris Sharpe.
