NEW YORK (June 23, 2009) - The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended New York Red Bulls defender Mike Petke two games and fined him $500 for inappropriate conduct and comments made toward the officiating crew at the Red Bulls June 13 game versus Toronto FC. The suspension and fine are in addition to the automatic one-game suspension he received for being issued a red card and the automatic fine of $750 levied for his two cautions, which resulted in his ejection. Petke's suspension totals three games and his fine totals $1,250.

Petke served the one-game red card suspension in the Red Bulls 1-1 tie versus Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, June 20. He will serve the remaining two games of the suspension when the Red Bulls play Toronto FC on Wednesday, June 24 and versus the Columbus Crew on Saturday, June 27.

As one of the League's official Charities of Choice, the US Soccer Foundation is the recipient of all player fines at the end of each season. Those fines are added to the Foundation's Annual Grants Pool from which the Board of Directors awards grants to soccer clubs and organizations that serve economically disadvantaged children in urban areas.
