Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO, IL (June 23, 2009) - With temperatures expected to remain around the upper 80's throughout the evening, Chicago Fire Soccer and TOYOTA PARK have announced that fans attending the SuperLiga Doubleheader tonight at TOYOTA PARK will be allowed to bring a bottle of water into the stadium to promote hydration and keep fans safe in the heat. Each fan may enter the stadium with a one-liter bottle of water that will be uncapped at the gate by a guest services representative upon entry. Fans are limited to one bottle each.

The Fire enter the second match of SuperLiga group play with three points after downing San Luis last Saturday. In the 69th minute, Fire designated player Cuauhtémoc Blanco slipped a pass from deep in the left corner to the top of the 18-yard box for McBride sprinting into the area. McBride ran onto the pass and placed a shot into the net for the game-winner.

The Fire's opponent, Chivas USA, fell to Tigres UANL 2-1 in their first match of SuperLiga last Saturday and will be forced to play without the services of Eduardo Lillingston tonight who was ejected after receiving two yellow card cautions against Tigres. The Fire defeated Chivas USA 3-2 on May 28th during MLS league play in one of the most exciting matches so far of the season.

The Fire will look to pick up important points as they are tied for the top spot in SuperLiga Group A with Tigres UANL. The top two teams from each group (A and B) will advance to the tournament semifinals on July 15th, locations and times to be announced at a later date. Chicago is competing for the first time in the third annual competition, which pits top soccer teams from Mexico and the United States against each other for local bragging rights and one of the biggest purses in the region. The third annual Superliga tournament showcases the budding rivalry between top teams from Mexico and MLS.
