Red Deer Rebels News Release

The Enmax Centrium was rockin' in anticipation of the first ever WHL playoff game between Red Deer and Prince Albert.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rebels wasted little time in opening the scoring in this one. Brady Gaudet fired a seeing eye wrist shot from the Raiders blue line, Brooks Maxwell tipped it home past a screened Luke Siemens just 25 seconds into the game. Rhyse Dieno also assisted on the opening goal... 1-0 Rebels.

Red Deer was given a golden opportunity to double that lead when Rhyse Dieno was fouled from behind by Harrison Ruopp resulting in a penalty shot being awarded. However, Siemens made the save for the Raiders to keep it a one goal game.

Dieno would break through in the final minute of the period. He took a beautiful feed from Turner Elson and fired home his first of the playoffs at 19:04... 2-0 Rebels.

SECOND PERIOD

The Rebels found themselves in penalty trouble in the first half of the period but were able to kill off four straight Raiders powerplays, including a 1:18 5-on-3 advantage.

As they did in the opening frame, the Rebels scored a timely goal late in the second. Cody Thiel found the rebound from Wyatt Johnson's shot and shovelled home his first ever playoff goal at the 18:35 mark. Cory Millette also assisted on the goal... 3-0 Red Deer through two periods.

THIRD PERIOD

No scoring. Patrik Bartosak finished with 31 saves to earn the shutout in his WHL playoff debut.
