REBELS MAKE COACHING CHANGE
MARCH 1 - Brent Sutter, President and General Manager of the Red Deer Rebels, announced that the club and head coach Derrick Walser have mutually agreed to part ways. Walser was in his first year with the club and compiled a 30-22-2-6 record through 60 games. The Rebels named Dave Struch Interim Head Coach through the end of the season. Struch, a native of Flin Flon, MB, served as Director, Hockey at Notre Dame College in Wilcox, SK this past season. Struch played four seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Saskatoon Blades before embarking on a 14-season professional career. He has five years of head coaching experience in the WHL with Saskatoon and Regina, and 12 years as an assistant coach with Saskatoon, Regina, and Everett.
LAST WEEK'S GAMES
SAT. MARCH 2 - Hometown kid Talon Brigley scored with 30 second left in the third period to give the Rebels a 2-1 win over the visiting Calgary Hitmen at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Jhett Larson scored for Red Deer in the first period. Rhett Stoesser was superb in making 34 saves for the victory.
FRI. MARCH 1 - The Rebels battled back several times but ultimately fell just short in a 7-5 loss to the visiting Swift Current Broncos at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Frantisek Formanek scored for the fifth-straight game for Red Deer and added three assists. Luke Vlooswyk (first WHL goal), Samuel Drancak, Jhett Larson and Mats Lindgren also scored for the Rebels. Red Deer outshot Swift Current 38-25 and was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Broncos were 2-for-4.
WED. FEB. 28 - The Prince Albert Raiders downed the Rebels 5-1 at the Art Hauser Centre. Frantisek Formanek scored Red Deer's lone goal late in the third period to run his scoring streak to a career-high four games. Prince Albert outshot Red Deer 37-25 and was 2-for-3 on the power play while the Rebels were 0-for-3.
TUE. FEB. 27 - Chase Wutzke made 36 saves for his first career shutout, and Kai Uchacz had two goals and two assists to lead the Rebels to an impressive 5-0 over the league leading Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre. Ollie Josephson had a goal and an assist. Frantisek Formanek and Talon Brigley also scored. Saskatoon outshot Red Deer 36-20 and both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.
THIS WEEK
Just two games for the Rebels this week, both versus the Calgary Hitmen. The home-and-home series goes Friday, March 8 at the Scotiabank Saddledome and Saturday, March 9 at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Both games start at 7 p.m. The Rebels lead the season series with the Hitmen 6-1 and have six-straight wins versus Calgary.

Rebels captain Kai Uchacz is just the fifth player in Rebels history, and first in 26 years, to score 40 goals in back-to-back seasons, joining Shawn McNeil (1997-98, 98-99), Arron Asham (96-97, 97-98), Greg Schmidt (95-96, 96-97) and BJ Young (95-96, 96-97).
