Red Deer Rebels News Release

One night after losing 5-2 in Calgary, the Rebels returned home to the Enmax Centrium for their third battle of the season with the Raiders.

FIRST PERIOD

A mistake by Raiders goalie Cole Cheveldave led to the Rebels scoring the game opening goal.  Cheveldave came well out of his net in an attempt to make a clearing pass but instead put it right on Wyatt Johnson's stick.  Johnson fired the puck into the wide open Raiders cage for his 6th goal of the season.  The shorthanded goal, at 16:09, put Red Deer up 1-0.

The Raiders tied the game less than a minute later while still on the powerplay.  Dakota Conroy beat a screened Patrik Bartosak for his 11th of the campaign.  Leon Draisaitl and Sawyer Lange picked up the assists on the goal which tied the game 1-1 at 17:04.

SECOND PERIOD

Prince Albert scored two quick goals to take a two goal lead late in the middle frame.  Leon Draisaitl picked up a loose puck near the crease and went top shelf for his 16th goal of the season.  The powerplay marker at 16:32, assisted by Conroy and Lange, made it 2-1.  Then just 27 seconds later Mike Winther took a slick pass from Josh Morrisey and put home his 3rd of the season.  Jayden Hart also assisted on the goal, at 16:59, giving Prince Albert a 3-1 lead.

But the Rebels would come back to tie the game in short order.  Kayle Doetzel channelled his inner Bobby Orr on an end-to-end rush for his 1st goal of the season.  The unassisted marker made it 3-2 at 18:39.  A mere 36 seconds later, Dominik Volek collected his 14th goal, from Nick Charif and Haydn Fleury, to send this game into the 2nd intermission tied 3-3.

THIRD PERIOD

Red Deer regained the lead in the opening minute of the 3rd period when Haydn Fleury's wrist shot from the point went past Cheveldave for Haydn's 5th goal of the season.  Volek and Lukas Sutter picked up the assists at 0:42 as the Rebels went ahead 4-3.

The Rebels went ahead by two when Brooks Maxwell capped a fantastic 2-on-1 with Rhyse Dieno by scoring his 7th of the year.  Conner Bleackley also picked up an assist to extend his point streak to five games.  The goal at 11:45 made it 5-3 for the Rebels.

Bleackley sealed the deal with an empty net goal, his 13th goal of the season, at 19:06 to make the final 6-3.
