Rebels 2019 Prospects Camp Will Have a New Look

The Red Deer Rebels are going in a different direction with this year's prospects camp set for Friday to Sunday at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
Unlike in the past when the camp included the club's most recent bantam draft picks, the Rebels are bringing in exclusively 16- and 17-year olds this year.
The Rebels' 2019 draft picks are or will be 15 this year and are therefore ineligible to play full-time in the Western Hockey League next season. Conversely, this year's prospects camp roster will feature players eligible to play in the 2019-20 campaign, including several who are basically guaranteed to be on the team's opening-night roster.
"We just felt we'd do something different this year," said Rebels GM/head coach Brent Sutter. "We're going to have some young players on our team next season and these kids can come in and get acclimatized somewhat.
"All the players attending played either midget triple A or junior A last season."
Among the 16 signed players attending the camp are forwards Keaton Sorensen, Jordan Borysiuk, Jayden Grubbe, Jaxsen Wiebe, Ethan Rowland, Josh Medernach and Jace Isley, defencemen Kyle Masters, Trey Patterson, Blake Gustafson, Jeremy Hancock and Mason Ward, and netminder Eric Ward.
On-ice sessions are slated for 3-5 p.m. Friday, 3:45-5:45 p.m. Saturday and 9-11 a.m. Sunday.
