Real Salt Lake News Release

REAL SALT LAKE DRAWS UC-IRVINE 1-1 IN PRESEASON MATCH IN IRVINE, CALIF.

Real Salt Lake drew UC-Irvine 1-1 on Saturday at Anteater Stadium in its first preseason match during the club's 10-day training camp in Irvine, Calif. Real Salt Lake took the lead in the 15th minute of the match with a goal from newcomer MF Luke Mullholland. RSL conceded a late goal for the final result, as the Irvine group deftly strung together several one-touch passes in the 83rd minute on a rare counter to catch the Claret-and-Cobalt on the back foot. 25 different players saw action for RSL against Irvine, with MF Cole Grossman (68') and FW Olmes Garcia (61') the only two players to play more than 45 minutes.

Several familiar RSL veterans are in California but did not feature in Saturday's draw with UC-I, as DF Nat Borchers, MF Ned Grabavoy, DF Chris Schuler, FW Alvaro Saborio, DF Kwame Watson-Siriboe and MF John Stertzer observed from the sideline. FW Robbie Findley, DF Tony Beltran and DF Rich Balchan are back in Salt Lake undergoing rehabilitation. All three are expected to join the team for its final preseason stage in Tucson, Arizona starting Feb. 17.

Real Salt Lake will participate in one more preseason match in Southern California against MLS foe Chivas USA on Feb. 13 at 12:00 p.m. MT at StubHub Center.

The team will head back to Utah on Friday, Feb, 14 and have the weekend off before returning to Arizona on Feb. 17 for a two-week stint in Tucson to participate in the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament. This will be Real Salt Lake's third-consecutive year in the round-robin competition, which will also include fellow MLS clubs Chicago Fire, Chivas USA, Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution, along with USL-Premier Development League club FC Tucson.

The FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and will conclude with the Championship and Consolation matches on Saturday, March 1. A full schedule and ticketing information for all of the 2014 MLS Preseason games in Tucson can be found at www.FCTucson.com .

BECKERMAN, RIMANDO AND GIL REJOIN RSL IN IRVINE, CALIF. FOR THE REST OF PRESEASON

Monday marks the return of Captain Kyle Beckerman, GK Nick Rimando and MF Luis Gil to the Real Salt Lake setup following their stint with the U.S. Men's National Team at its annual January camp.

Beckerman, Rimando and Gil spent most of January with U.S. Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann and company in Los Angeles and Brazil, training with the USMNT for over three weeks before beating South Korea 2-0 in an international friendly on Feb. 1 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Both Beckerman and Rimando started that match and went the full 90 minutes, with Rimando keeping his fourth career USMNT clean-sheet to improve to 10-0-0 with the national team. The 20-year-old Gil, now entering his fifth season with RSL, came on in the 75th minute to earn his first cap for the United States senior team. Gil starred for the U.S. U-20 squad in last summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
