Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake (4-4-5, 17 points) snapped a two-game home losing skid with a 2-0 victory over the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Albert Rusnák notched his third goal of the season before adding an assist to Damir Kreilach in the second half while Andrew Putna made two saves to preserve the shutout.
In the first half, the Galaxy generated the best opportunities of the first 45 minutes, including a rifled shot from Cristian Pavon off the crossbar in the 21st minute. A possession battle ensued through the middle of the field with RSL generating a few chances to score that didn't trouble David Bingham in the Galaxy goal as the teams went into the halftime break scoreless.
The second half was all RSL and in the 65th minute, Rusnák converted a penalty drawn by Justin Meram to open the scoring. Rusnák then turned provider in the 72nd minute when his cross to the top of the penalty area found the run of Kreilach who easily ushered home the insurance goal to seal the 2-0 home win.
UP NEXT: Real Salt Lake will travel to Minnesota United FC on Sunday, September 27 to face The Loons for the third time in 2020. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. MT from Allianz Field.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:
RSL: Albert Rusnák (Penalty) 65th minute: Winning the ball in the defensive half, RSL charged forward into space where Everton Luiz put Justin Meram through on goal. RSL: Damir Kreilach (Albert Rusnák, Donny Toia), 72nd minute: Receiving the ball in the defensive half, Toia played Rusnák down the near sideline where he collected the ball with space to cross. Rusnák then played a low cross to Kreilach at the top of the area where he fired a right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of the net.
