Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake MF Albert Rusnák has been called in to the Slovakian National Team for a friendly against Jordan in Slovakia on June 6 and UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying match against Azerbaijan in Azerbaijan on June 11.
Slovakia is currently 1-1-0 through the first two matches of UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying and leads Group E. The top two teams in each group qualify for the final tournament, which is scheduled to take place from June 12-July 12 of 2020.
"Albert has been a key factor in our current run of form and this call-up is a testament to what he's done for Real Salt Lake," RSL General Manager Craig Waibel said. "This, again, is a great opportunity for him to continue to put his stamp on Slovakia on the international stage and we are happy for him to have earned that opportunity."
Rusnák, 24, has five goals and two assists in 13 matches this season, giving him 22 goals and 23 assists in 74 matches since coming to Real Salt Lake prior to the 2017 season. In his first MLS season, Rusnák finished fourth in the league with 14 assists and added seven goals to earn the club's Golden Boot and MVP honors. In 2018, he had 10 goals and seven assists, helping RSL reach the MLS Cup Playoffs, ousting LAFC in the Knockout Round before falling in the Western Conference Semifinals to Sporting Kansas City.
Since his first appearance for Slovakia in 2016, Rusnák has five goals in 19 caps, including one in a 2-0 win over Hungary in the first match of UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying on March 21, 2019.
Real Salt Lake is 6-8-1 (19 points) and sixth in the Western Conference and will face LAFC in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 11 at Rio Tinto Stadium before returning to MLS action on June 22 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois.
