San Jose Earthquakes News Release
The San Jose Earthquakes earned a tough 1-1 road draw on Saturday night against Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United. Chris Wondolowski has now scored seven goals in his last three matches, tied for second most over a three-match span in league history. It also marked the ninth time Wondolowski has tallied a goal in three or more consecutive matches.
San Jose's draw at Audi Field brings the Earthquakes to a 5-2-3 record in their last 10 matches, equaling their best 10-match stretch since Aug. 14 - Oct. 3, 2015 (5-2-3). The Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last three matches (2-0-1) and are on a four-match home winning streak in which they've outscored opponents 12-2. They seek their fifth consecutive home victory when they host FC Dallas on Saturday, June 8 (12:30 p.m. PT), presented by Wells Fargo. Saturday's match at Avaya Stadium will be San Jose's second matchup against the Texas side in 2019 and will be broadcast on Univision, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
Saturday's match will feature numerous activations to celebrate pride and honor the LGBTQ community. Ten thousand fans will receive a pride-themed armband, courtesy of Wells Fargo. The corner flags, goal nets, LEDs and captain's armband will all be pride-themed for the match, and the Quakes will fly a rainbow flag next to the flags of the United States of America and the State of California at Avaya Stadium.
EARTHQUAKES NOTES
Pure Grit
The Earthquakes are 5-2-3 in their last 10 matches, their best 10-match stretch in a single season since Aug. 14 - Oct. 3, 2015 (5-2-3). San Jose has lost just one of their last eight matches (4-1-3) which includes five road matches.
Home Fortress
The Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last three matches (2-0-1) and are on a four-match winning streak at home. San Jose seek a home winning streak of at least five games for the first time since 2013 (6/29/2013 - 9/8/2013). It would be only the second such stretch since 2005 and the fifth time in club history.
Career Best
Forward Chris Wondolowski has scored seven goals in his last three matches, tied for second most over a three-match span in league history. It marked his career high over a three-match span.
Can't Be Stopped
Forward Chris Wondolowski's goal against D.C. United extends his league scoring record to 151 goals. Wondolowski's MLS record for goals in road matches improves to 70 goals.
Consistency Is Key
Wondolowski has scored in three or more consecutive matches for the ninth time in his career and first time since April 2016.
Feeding the Beast
Defender Nick Lima's assist to Wondolowski was his first of the season and fourth of his MLS career.
Welcome Back
Earthquakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza and defender Tommy Thompson are available to play after serving one-match suspensions in D.C.
It's Not Goodbye, It's See You Later
The Earthquakes could be missing defenders Guram Kashia, Harold Cummings and Nick Lima, and midfielder Anibal Godoy against FC Dallas this Saturday due to international duty.
Round Two
Saturday's fixture will be San Jose's second matchup against FC Dallas in 2019, after a scoreless draw on April 27. The Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last five matches (3-0-2) against the Texas side.
Major Milestone
The Earthquakes are two goals away from recording 100 goals tallied against FC Dallas. It could be the first time the Quakes score 100+ goals against a single MLS club if they accomplish this feat in Saturday's matchup.
RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
Reno 1868 FC continue their unbeaten run at home this season after routing Las Vegas Lights FC 4-0 in the first Silver Cup matchup of 2019.
Reno's shutout victory at Greater Nevada Field was led by forwards Corey Hertzog and Brian Brown. Hertzog tallied Reno's first goal of the night in the 41st minute after connecting on a ball headed to him by Brown. Confusion among Las Vegas FC players in the 47th minute allowed Hertzog to reach a loose ball and chip it over to Brown, who brought it down and struck a low ball past the Las Vegas goalkeeper. Brown, who received his second call up this season from the Jamaica National Team, leads the team with eight goals this season. Hertzog follows closely behind with five.
The shutout over Las Vegas Lights FC marked Earthquakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano's second clean sheet of the season in a Reno kit. Quakes defender Kevin Partida started and played 60 minutes.
Reno will be in the Lone Star State to take on San Antonio FC on Saturday, June 8. Kickoff for Saturday's road match at Toyota Field is set for 5:30 p.m. PT.
