Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC is set to renew its I-15 Rivalry with Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday when it travels to Cashman Field in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff from Sin City is set for 8:30p MT and can be seen live on ESPN+.
Saturday's match will be the third match all-time between the two sides, with the Monarchs holding an undefeated 1-0-1 (4 points) record over the hosts. The Monarchs and Lights FC played against one another on two occasions in 2018, seeing a scoreless draw in the inaugural match at Zions Bank Stadium before the Monarchs topped Las Vegas at Cashman field 2-0 courtesy of goals from Sebastian Velasquez and MF Josh Heard.
Saturday night's clash is one that will see former U.S. Men's National Team teammates on opposing sidelines leading their teams against one another. Las Vegas' Eric Wynalda and Real's MartÃn Vasquez played side-by-side for the USMNT when it took on China in a pair of exhibitions in early 1997.
The Monarchs are coming off of a dominant 5-0 drubbing of LA Galaxy II last Saturday, a match that saw Vasquez earn his first win as the head coach of the Monarchs. Led by a brace from MF Maikel Chang and a second consecutive shutout performance from GK David Ochoa, the Monarchs were able to claim its first three-point outing of 2019. The Utah side also saw goals from FW Lionel Abate Etoundi, MF Ricardo Avila and DF Steve Jasso who notched a goal just three minutes into his professional debut. RSL Academy product and Monarchs MF Jordan Pena also made his debut in the match, playing the full 90 minutes against Los Dos.
