San Antonio FC Travels to Face Austin Bold FC
March 29, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC (0-2-1) will face Austin Bold FC (0-1-1) at Bold Stadium on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the first edition of the Central Texas Derby as well as the Alamo City club's first Copa Tejas match.
SAFC will head into the match looking for its first win of the season after falling 0-1 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last weekend. The team will look to earn three points against their in-state rivals after creating 41 chances throughout their first three matches this season, of which midfielder Lance Laing's 10 chances created rank first in the entire USL Championship.
Austin Bold FC will host SAFC in their inaugural home opener as they aim to earn their first win of the season after recording a draw and a loss in the first two matches. The club has tallied one goal scored and two conceded as well as one clean sheet along the way. SAFC will face familiar foes in Austin as former players Diego Restrepo, Kris Tyrpak, and Sonny Guadarrama now form part of the Bold's roster.
The match marks the first Copa Tejas game for SAFC after the supporter-led cup competition was created in early March. The Copa Tejas will feature the four Texas-based USL Championship teams (SAFC, Austin Bold, RGV FC, and El Paso Locomotive FC) as they compete to compile the best head-to-head record against each other. The winner will be awarded the trophy at the end of the regular season.
"This is an opportunity for our fans to see us on the road," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We know they'll make themselves heard at Bold stadium, and we just ask that they get behind the team like they always do and bring the same energy that they do at Toyota Field."
Fans traveling to the match are encouraged to wear red SAFC gear. San Antonio FC will return to Toyota Field following Saturday's clash as they host Las Vegas Lights on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. during Spurs Night. Fans can purchase tickets by contacting the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5657, by visiting http://www.SanAntonioFC.com, or downloading the official SAFC app via the iOS App Store or Google Play. Supporters can also follow the club by liking San Antonio FC on Facebook, as well as following the team on Twitter (@SanAntonioFC) and Instagram (@sanantoniofc).
