Preview: Austin Bold FC Set to Host First Home Match in Club History
March 29, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Bold FC News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin Bold FC kicks off the home slate this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with the inaugural Central Texas Derby against San Antonio FC. The team announced this afternoon that the sellout crowd of 5,022 fans will be on hand for the debut of Bold Stadium and the first-ever match in club history.
The Bold will look to rebound from a 2-1 loss at Reno 1868 FC on April 16, in which Kléber scored the first goal in club history and an early lead in the first half of the match. ABFC picked up a point in their season opener in Las Vegas the week prior, after working a scoreless draw in the first match in team history.
What You Need to Know
The game marks a homecoming for Austin locals Sonny Guadarrama (Cedar Park HS) and Kris Tyrpak (Dripping Springs HS)
ABFC's Bold Stadium and San Antonio's Toyota Field are separated by just 70 miles, the second-shortest distance between USL Championship clubs, behind the approximately 37 miles that separate LA Galaxy II and Orange County SC
Three players on the Austin Bold FC roster played with SAFC last season: Tyrpak, Guadarrama and 2017 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year Diego Restrepo
Kléber scored the first goal in club history in the Bold's week two match at Reno 1868 FC. While it was his first of the season and the first for the Bold, the goal was the 173rd of the Gladiator's career
Including Saturday's match, the Bold will play five of their next seven matches at home
Following the match against SAFC, the Bold will hit the road once again - heading back west to California for a contest against Sacramento Republic FC - before opening a three-game home stretch on Wednesday, April 17 against defending Western Conference champions Phoenix Rising FC. Tickets are available for the match and can be purchased at www.AustinBoldFC.com or by calling the Austin Bold FC sales office at 512.872.8700.
