Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate RB Jeff Johnson for being named CFL Offensive Player of the Week.
Jeff made the most of his first-ever start for the Argonauts. He followed up his clutch performance from the week before in Montreal with an even more impressive display in front of more than 40,000 fans at Rogers Centre. Johnson has been a premier special teams player in the CFL and has now shown everyone that he can be a premier running back too.
Player of the Week Judge Bob Krouse was impressed with Johnson's versatility: "In his first start as an Argo, Johnson showed everyone that he can compete at a very high level. Johnson was utilized as a receiver out of the backfield to take advantage of his good hands and running ability after the catch. Johnson has been an Argonaut backup running back and a special teams' player for the last four years, but sometimes injuries allow players to come to the front and shine. Jeff Johnson's performance was outstanding."
The former York University star collected 197 all-purpose yards, including 40 rushing and a career-high 157 yards receiving. The performance marked Johnson's first 100+ yard receiving game in the CFL. He also experienced his first multi-touchdown contest, finding the endzone twice. This is the first time in his six year professional football career that Jeff has earned CFL Offensive Player of the Week.
The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit. For more information about ticket packages, please contact the sales team at (416) 341-ARGO.
