(Rochester, New York)...The defending American Basketball Association champion Rochester RazorSharks are glad to be back in the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena this week as they lost two games on the road last weekend to fall to third place in the ABA's North Division with a 7-4 record. Rochester travels 60 miles down the New York State Thruway on Wednesday, December 20 to meet the Buffalo Silverbacks for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off at Buffalo State College. The RazorSharks then return to The Blue Cross Arena for three straight holiday games - Saturday, December 23 vs. Maryland; Thursday, December 28 vs. Cape Cod and Sunday, December 31 - New Year's Eve - vs. the Quebec City Kebekwa.
22 STRAIGHT WINS ON HOME COURT
The RazorSharks have won 22 straight games on home court at The Blue Cross Arena and are closing in on the Rochester professional basketball record for consecutive home wins. The CBA Rochester Zeniths won 23 straight home games at the Dome Arena during the 1978-79 season, and the NBA Royals won 23 straight games from November 1, 1949, through February 7, 1950, as compiled by local sports historians Doug Brei and Bill Flynn. The Royals were 33-1 at home during the 1949-50 season.
MARYLAND COMES TO ROCHESTER THIS SATURDAY
The Maryland Nighthawks (6-5) have replaced the Toledo Ice for this Saturday night's home game at The Blue Cross Arena, with tip-off at 7:05 p.m. The RazorSharks defeated the Nighthawks 125-114 back on November 18 in Rochester. Maryland plays the night before - December 22 - at Buffalo and they are on a three-game win streak, with a 4-3 record on the road.
RAZORSHARKS & TEDDY GEIGER PLAY ON NEW YEAR'S EVE
The RazorSharks will host teen rock idol Teddy Geiger after the RazorSharks New Year's Eve matinee game against Quebec City on December 31, 2006 at The Blue Cross Arena. Teddy, a native of Rochester, has had a #8 Billboard hit and is currently touring the United States supporting his album "Underage Thinking". The RazorSharks will tip-off at 5:05 p.m. that day, with Teddy following at approximately 8:00 p.m. and the City of Rochester downtown fireworks following the concert.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
