Lost Weekend for Sound

December 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Hyannis, MA- The Strong Island Sound set out for a weekend road trip with an 8-4 record, looking to solidify their hold on first place in the Blue Central Division. They were making their first trip up to both Quebec City and Cape Cod this season to face the Kebekwa and Frenzy, respectively. The best laid plans of mice and men...

On Friday evening, the Great White north awaited the Sound in the form of the Quebec City Kebekwa. These two teams were facing each other for the first time, with Quebec being an expansion team this season. Playing like anything but a first-year organization, the Kebs took a 6-3 record into the contest. After a 101-92 victory, the Quebec City faithful at Laval University went home happy, with the team setting an attendance record for the young season at 1,500.

After an off-day on Saturday, the Sound met up with a familiar foe, but this time on their turf. After defeating the Cape Cod Frenzy on two occasions on Long Island, the Sound visited Barnstable High School for the first time. A totally different scenario took place, as the Frenzy jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold on for the 118-106 win. In their earlier meetings, Strong Island was the team that took an early advantage and came away with the W's. But the home team proved to be the victor in this series once again, with Cape Cod shining.

Frenzy forward Rob Sanders returned from an injury and contributed a triple-double, with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. The game was close until the Frenzy started to pull away in the third quarter, opening their lead to 17 points. A run by the Sound made it a nine-point game in the fourth, but Cape Cod was able to work the clock and maintain their lead.

High scorers for the Sound were Rahim Lowery (26 points) and Chris Grant (23 points). Greg Plummer and Woody Soufrant each had 15 points.

The Sound look to snap their three game losing streak and improve on their 8-6 record when they return home on Friday, December 22nd when they meet the Brooklyn Wonders at 7:30 p.m., then a rematch with Quebec City on Saturday, December 23rd at 7:00 p.m. . Both games will take place at Suffolk Community College in Selden. For ticket information, please visit www.strongislandsound.com.
